Tomorrow Changes Everything

I am one day away from coming out to my parents.

The family reunion is going well, though I remain very busy with all of the scheduled activities. I am still trying to finish my letter in the free moments I do have.

I am feeling nervous, scared, confident, timid, excited, afraid, proud, ashamed and everything in between.

I vacillate between wanting to tell them and having second thoughts, though I know this will be one of the few opportunities that we can have this conversation.

If there were ever a time I needed positive affirmation and some encouraging, loving thoughts, that would be now.

  1. Well here you go then. Look at it this way, good or bad, positive or negative, it will be over with. The cat will be out of the bag, never to be back in, and you will have an entirely new freedom.

Good luck. I'm sending buckets of positive thoughts your way my friend.

  2. Your parents must love you unconditionally. You dont have anything to worry. ^_^

    Good luck.

  4. Best of luck. I remember the array of feelings I felt before I came out to my parents. But the ending feeling is one of relief!

  5. The thing is, you want to be honest with them, and you want to include this piece of information. Until you do come out to them, this will be a constant concern. So coming out will put an end to the "do I tell/don't I tell" anxiety.

Whether this comes as a total surprise or as something they may have dimly suspected, after re-reading the posts labeled "parents," I think they are close enough to you that they will be accepting. If they had no inkling, maybe they will need some time to adjust. But eventually they should get used to it.

Anyway, it seems to me that this is something you need to do for yourself at this time, so go ahead and give them the letter.

BTW, a number of years ago there was a play titled "Fifth of July." I never saw the whole thing, just a couple of snippets on TV, but I understand it's about a gay Viet-Nam veteran, just back from the war, who comes out on the fifth of July. So you've chosen the literarily right day for it.
